Baby Einstein and I have a love/hate relationship. But let me back up. I'm blogging right now at 8:04 a.m. on a Saturday morning, and I've been up since 6:30 when my child awoke screaming. He cried on and off for about an hour and screamed bloody murder when I put him in his bed because I mistakenly thought he had calmed down enough to fall back asleep by himself. Silly me. I finally decided to come downstairs and give him some breakfast which consisted of rice cereal and some banana. (His new thing is taking bites off the banana while I hold it. That's much cooler than picking up diced pieces of banana off the tray.) Lately he's been downing bananas like mad. He cries whenever he's done.
So back to Baby Einstein. I turned it on for Emerson after breakfast so I could do stuff. This is the main reason for even owning Baby Einstein. I have no idea whether it makes kids smarter or dumber, but it keeps them occupied...whatever. I love the fact that his face lights up and he makes excited babbles when the music comes on and the caterpillar crawls across the screen. And I think it's adorable that he sits down and folds his little hands in his lap and pays careful attention to all the puppets and toys they show. I like that they have some mesmerizing things on there to watch as well. I especially like the tornado thing on Baby Mozart. It's really cool. I'm also a fan of Baby MacDonald. There are a few things I can't stand though. I get tired of the same ones over and over. The main lady's voice grates on my nerves. When I'm in the other room doing something and I hear her stupid voice saying over and over "Get up" or "Stand up" in time with the music I want to tear my hair out and scream. Another annoying thing is the hand model on all the movies. For those of you who have never experienced Baby Einstein, let me explain. There is a disembodied hand that demonstrates a lot of the toys while the music plays. The female hand is all stiff and unnatural. It just looks so robotic and weird. And it bugs me. My favorite was when she had a scabbed-over gash on her hand and you couldn't help staring at it while she was showing some mesmerizing toy. (Ok so maybe gash is a little much, but it was a visible wound.) Anyway...I like it and I don't. I think I'm going to have to try Elmo's World pretty soon as my friend suggested so I don't go all the way crazy.

How sad for Little E! Did he have a nightmare or something? You will have to show us the Baby Einstein video so that we can enjoy it too!
After MANY years of having Barney, Sesame Street, (and more recently Disney Channel) playing in the background at our house, I can attest to the fact that after awhile you develop the ability to totally tune them out and then they don't really bug you anymore!
Oh my heck, I totally know what you mean. Except for our thing is the Baby Signing Time DVD. And we only have one, so there's NO variety. And the songs are so dang catchy that I walk around all day singing them and fall asleep with them playing round and round in my head. Awful! But Sadie absolutely loves it and it's a great babysitter like you said. So maybe I need to try the Baby Einstein and you need to try Baby Signing Time. Switch it up a little bit. :)
Oh our boys are similar! You do need to try Elmo's World or the old Sesame Street videos. It is much better for me than having to listen to that craziness over and over everyday!
We know exactly what disgusting hand you're talking about!!! Tim has also complained about it many times and I choose not to watch it. You mentioned the gross scab...have you looked at the fingernail? Yuck! They need "hand model" auditions for the next show.
You might find Elmo's voice a little annoying after awhile. He was not invented yet when Sesame Street was on at my house. Grover was my personal favorite. And then my all time favorite which doesn't come on any more and lots of people love to hate anyway was Mr. Rogers. I have told your mom I used to watch it for the calming effect myself as a mom! Oh the dilemmas we have as women!!
I haven't shown any Baby Einstiens to Ivy yet, but it would be nice to be able to get some things done while she's occupied... after reading this though, it sounds like a variety is necessary for mom's sanity!
This makes me laugh because we started with Elmo's World and I would cringe in physical pain every time I heard that "La la la la Elmo's World". Pretty soon you can convince him to watch a little more variety with a little less annoying characters. Though, right now Dora is beginning to give me the twitches as well...
You are so funny! The things that just push our buttons!
We could record Slippery Fish and you could play that over and over (I hope I spelled slippery right. My brain has stopped functioning)!
My sister in law swears by baby einstein! It feels like forever since Scottie and I have seen you hopefully you are well.
angie
That is so funny. Treyton hasn't watched it for a while and I'm glad. The music gets old pretty fast.
