He has now had his first night of call...30 whole hours...and is back on again tonight. Can I just say that I feel like I have whiplash? Two weeks off after boards...fun, blissful, practically worry-free...to this. I always knew it would stink, and I know it will only get worse during intern year when he's actually responsible for patients' lives, but I hope I quickly learn how to get used to this.

3rd Year Begins!
After our whirlwind of Fourth of July activities and a long weekend, reality quickly set in the next morning when Ben officially started his third year of medical school. Isn't he cute in his official green scrubs!? I was a little freaked out when I saw him in his scrubs, but got even more freaked out when he came home with a pager and an OB/Gyn call schedule. Bleh.

Cute! I'm glad that you are continuing on the tradition at your house!
You will get used to it whether you like it or not. Believe me.
I'm sure it will be a big adjustment for everyone, but congrats to Ben on making it to this big milestone in his medical student career!
Wow, that is crazy! He looks all official. (And maybe the OB-GYN experience will come in handy in a couple of weeks! How ironic he'd be getting that kind of experience right before you have a baby...)
And so it begins...
Let me know when he is on call and there is a relatively good chance Bryan is probably gone as well and we can have dinner together! I hope he's enjoying it even though i still wish he could have gone to Riverside. Seriously though, we need to hang out soon!
It wasa pretty crazy to see him at the hospital as I was leaving work in his scrubs and white coat...but so exciting he's out of the classroom more and doing the things he's been learning about. So fun!
I didn't know he wanted to be an OB. Congrats!
Yeah for no sleep! Have fun with hardly seeing your spouse! It honestly stinks! Good luck Ben! And more importantly good luck to you Melinda! :) Hey, is he going to assist on your delivery? That would kind of be neat!
Wiplash! That's a great word to describe 3rd year! hahahah And really, that's no joke!
Melinda, I give you my upmost sympathy during this year. I have been there, and yes, I even had a baby girl during Jon's surgery rotation...which may I add that I shed many tears trying to balance two kids and recovering from my c-section. We celebrated after that rotation!
If you need someone to talk to give me a call! I know you may not think 3rd year is the funnest, but it flies by.
I like the traditional "first day of school" pose :)
you aren't giving me very much to look forward too. ;)
It's amazing how fast you will adapt to Ben being gone a lot in residency. Brian used to sometimes work well over 100 hours a week back before they had laws about how much residents could work. We used to bring dinner to Brian at the hospital when he was on call and had to sleep there. We would eat with him and then say goodnight in the parking lot. Memories...
