For family night on Monday, I was feeling fun and adventurous, so we decided to make sugar cookies and carve pumpkin. No there is no "s" on the end. We used to have more than one pumpkin to carve, but we found it was rotten and Emerson had stepped in the gunk so it was promptly tossed out. (Remember though how we picked out our pumpkins in complete darkness? Hence the rotten ugly pumpkin.)
E wasn't too sure about the stuff Daddy was pulling out of the pumpkin. Luckily stroller is close by watching over him.
He was pro at pushing down the cookie cutters and even made grunting noises to demonstrate that great effort was being made. There were silly little thumb prints in all the cookies surrounding the ones he cut out.
He only smashed like, all of them. :)And yes, we're horrible parents because we let him eat a cookie at the end. *Gasp!* Not SUGAR! Oh well, it's ok because Ben isn't going to school to become a dentist. Just a doctor. Therefore we don't care if his teeth rot. (Someone actually insinuated that yesterday. Grrr.) And yes, we're also planning to let him eat some of his Halloween candy. I guess I'd better run out and buy a toothbrush finally. (Hope you're catching the thick sarcasm here. We obviously have a toothbrush and wield it daily.)

Nin, you crack me up so much with the way you explain things! Emerson and Ben look exactly alike in that picture! What a couple of good helpers! Guess what? For future reference, none of my kids had cavities until adulthood and some still don't, and they ate LOTS of Halloween candy!! :)
Aunt Karen
How funny - Andy and Ben ended up picking out a broken/rotten pumpkin in the dark as well. :)
You really had someone "insinuate" that to you? Ouch. We give Sadie candy on a normal basis (not a lot, but enough to have a "treat" every once in awhile) and when we went to the dentist, he said she had beautiful, strong teeth.
You've gotta love some people. :)
p.s. Remember when we carved pumpkins back when we were all childless still? Ah, the memories.
You mean kids aren't supposed to eat sugar? I guess we're REALLY bad parents. :)
I love Emerson's little thumb prints in all of the cookies! He was being such a good helper! You could tell that he felt all big holding the carving knife.
what a cute little pumpkin carver! and cookie-transferer! :) yay for being 18 months and in the nursery! i think brett is his teacher! E better start gaining some weight or his girlfriend (other E) will steamroll him!
What a fun FHE! Emerson is so cute, I love the little details you're able to remember and capture!
That reminds me of last year's "E" pumpkin.....it was dead on!
you guys are so great, making cookies, carving pumpkins...I'm totally impressed! I love that E is such a great helper!
What a cute little guy! Love the pic of E next to his pumpkin with his bare feet dangling. And such a good little helper with the cookies...Love it
I'm really glad Rick isn't going to dental school. We never brush the kids' teeth. I tell them if they want clean teeth, they'll have to go splinter a stick and use that like the pioneers. But really, we don't have dental insurance, so Tanner has only been to the dentist once and the others . . . not at ALL!
